Marang District Council was established on January 1, 1981 when all Local Authority Administration restructured. During the establishment of Marang District Council it includes two (2) districts only, Reuters and Reuters Rusila Kerengga Island. The spacious area is square 43.10km containing 13 villages. However on February 15, 1996 Marang District Council area has been expanded to include the entire Marang 666.54 sq km area comprising six districts, namely:

Rusila
Kerengga Island
Merchang
Jerong
Bukit Payung
Alor Limbat

This means all of Marang is Marang District Council area.

Marang District Council led by two State Administrative Officer under administrative and support services (administrative and professional) who served as the President and Secretary of the Council. In addition, the policies determined by the Council in the administration of the Board consisting of members of the Council of 25 members, including the Speaker appointed under Section 16 of the Local Government Act 171 of 1976.
