Our roots date back to the 19th century when the first service of the Savings Bank opened in Perak and Selangor. These banks will soon become part of the network of Post Office Savings Bank developed world to serve over 2.5 million depositors by 1974, with a combined asset value of more than RM537 million.
When BSN was officially established on December 1, 1974, the National Savings Bank Act, 1974, has enabled the transfer of authority from the Department of Postal Services to the Board of Directors of the bank. Therefore, BSN was officially launched on December 5 by YAB Tun Haji Abdul Razak bin Hussein, Malaysia's second Prime Minister:
"National Savings Bank is a new way in our efforts to foster austerity so that the people will be encouraged to keep their money. It will maintain the high standard of the Post Office Savings Bank and at the same time bring some changes in accordance with the present.
I hope with the launch of National Savings Bank today, it will grow as a major savings institutions and savings campaign will expand the government's anti-inflation measures and accelerate the pace of national development.
Thus the National Savings Bank has an important role in people's lives and National Development. "
