In 1993, the Prime Minister, Dato Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad launched the establishment of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation or MATRADE, Kuala Lumpur. Also present at the launching ceremony were the Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz and Chief Executive of Sime Darby Group, Tan Sri Tunku Ahmad Yahya. MATRADE established through an Act and came into force on 1 March 1993 and chaired by Tan Sri Tunku Ahmad Yahya. MATRADE is a corporation under the Ministry of International Trade and Industry is the liaison between Malaysian companies with international markets. As the national trade promotion agency, MATRADE is supported by a network of offices in 31 major cities in the world offers a variety of facilities and services to help Malaysian companies gain export opportunities.
