Penang is one of Malaysia's thirteen states in which it is located to the north of the peninsula. Local government is the third stage in the administrative structure of the Government of Malaysia. Local government came into existence in Penang in 1856.
Council has one local administrative area which covers approximately 299.65 square kilometers with a total population of multiracial about 660,000 people.
The Council was established on December 15, 1976, under the Local Government Act 1976. The Council is an organization that provides services for local authorities to Penang (Island). Council's operational activities and affect the quality of daily life of the people live.
Administrative Board of the Council consists of a mayor and 24 councilors. They are appointed by the State Government under the Local Government Act 1976. The term of members of the Council during the year.
